Na krążku znalazły się takie utwory, jak "All You Need is Love", a także - śpiewany przez perkusistę grupy Ringo Starra - utwór tytułowy. "Yellow Submarine" jest właściwie projektem filmowo-muzycznym The Beatles. "Fantastyczna czwórka" z Liverpoolu poza wydaniem dziesiątego albumu w swojej dyskografii - choć złożonego przeważnie z "odrzutów" z innych sesji - przygotowała dla swoich fanów także film animowany w reżyserii Kanadyjczyka George'a Dunninga. "Fantastyczna czwórka" zaliczyła jeszcze jedną filmową wpadkę, surowo oceniony, surrealistyczny film "Magical Mystery Tour" (1967 r., reż. Bernard Knowles). "Yellow Submarine" miała zamknąć filmografię grupy. Muzyka, wypełniająca filmową ścieżkę dźwiękową, została w większości przygotowana przez George'a Martina, wieloletniego producenta Beatlesów.
